Infrastructure for Growth, Employment and Progressive Prosperity: Is the vision achievable?
Infrastructure is critical to driving development and growth in any country, and especially so in South Africa where there is an imperative to address extreme unemployment, poverty and inequality. There is a major effort to expand the public infrastructure programme, but it sometimes seems like it moves in fits and starts. The National Infrastructure Plan 2050 (NIP2050) has been released for public consultation by the SA Cabinet and Infrastructure SA. It comes just as National Treasury announced its Medium Term Budget Policy Proposals. Can the vision be achieved? Dr. Altman will offer insight into the NIP2050, how it connects to the budget, and why it could move the dial for better progress in infrastructure delivery.
