This paper is one of a series developed to inform the Scaling Up ECD Services (0–4 years) Research Project with the aim of improving child development and significant job creation. Six case studies were undertaken to illustrate the issues faced by on-the-ground service providers in delivering different kinds of ECD services for 0–4 year-olds. The case studies sought to illustrate the way each service met children’s holistic needs. They also examined the factors that either contribute to or hinder effective service provision. The aim was to indicate what is working well and where the gaps remain in relation to the interface with government, training and accreditation, the job hierarchy, and child and caregiver outcomes. Lessons will be drawn from this study to inform demonstration projects.
